In view of the rising temperatures joggers should heed some tips, so that despite good intentions health does not suffer from the sporting zeal.
"Especially those joggers who have reduced their workload in the past months, should not take over now in summer temperatures," said Klaus Möhlendick, sports scientist at the Barmer health insurance in a statement.
"Rather, they should increase their running time slowly and thus get used to the greater load and the higher temperatures," recommends the expert.
Who overdo it, the threatened stomach problems, dizziness or headache. In these cases, as a precaution, you should better stop training altogether.
Headgear does not make sense automatically
Möhlendick recommends joggers to drink enough before and after running. For clothing, especially functional clothing is recommended, which passes the sweat from the inside out.
Under thick cotton T-shirts, on the other hand, the heat builds up. The same applies to the head protection.
"Many people think that headgear makes a lot of sense while jogging. But who runs mostly in the shade, should better do without it. Because otherwise you sweat far more than necessary, because a lot of the heat is released through the head, "explains the expert of the health insurance.
Jogging in the morning or in the evening and refrain from heavy tempo runs
"Jogging also depends on the time of day. It is best to walk early in the morning or late at night, when the temperatures are more pleasant and the circulation is not overburdened, "says Möhlendick.
In addition, in the morning the health-threatening ozone levels are lowest. The sports scientist also advises caution when speeding, because among other things they can lead to circulatory problems.
This is only for well-trained athletes who tolerate summer temperatures. But even experienced joggers should avoid long stretches in the sun and run as far as possible in the shade. (Ad)
