Magnesium lowers blood pressure
Avoid hypertension with magnesium?
28.10.2011
High blood pressure (arterial hypertension) is one of the most common complaints of the cardiovascular system in Germany. The main reasons for the increased occurrence of high blood pressure are unhealthy diet, overweight and lack of exercise.
The Society for Biofactors e.V. emphasizes in a recent communication especially the importance of magnesium supply for blood pressure. Numerous studies have shown that a significant proportion of high blood pressure patients suffer from a magnesium deficiency, which favors vasoconstriction and in this way increases blood pressure, the experts explained. Since hypertension is regarded as the main risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, it would be possible to significantly reduce the health risk of those affected by adequate magnesium supply, according to the Society's Communication for Biofactors.
Magnesium supplements can reduce blood pressure
The renowned hypertension specialist Prof. Dr. med. Klaus Kisters, Chief Physician of the Medical Clinic I at the St. Anna Hospital in Herne, referred explicitly to the importance of magnesium supply for blood pressure in a series of lectures of the Society for Biofactors. According to the expert, the elevated blood pressure levels were often already normalized by a lifestyle change and the intake of magnesium supplements. According to the hypertensive specialist, the intake of appropriate preparations can have a positive effect on borderline as well as on manifest hypertension. As the expert in applied pharmacology and clinical pharmacotherapy of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Society for Biofactors, Prof. Dr. med. Joachim Schmidt, a specialist in pharmacology from Dresden, supplemented, magnesium deficiency also favors cardiovascular risk factors such as „Vascular-damaging inflammation, diabetes and cardiac arrhythmias.“
Magnesium deficiency represents a significant health risk
So would have numerous „Epidemiological studies convincingly demonstrated that magnesium deficiency leads to an increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease“, said the specialist in pharmacology on behalf of the Society for Biofactors. A simple change of diet is usually not sufficient to remedy the undersupply of magnesium, Prof. Schmidt continued. The expert recommends preparations made of special magnesium compounds, the so-called magnesium orotate of „clinically relevant feature“ be because the contained orotic acid also has cardioprotective properties. These „vitamin-like substance“ promotes the health of the heart according to the announcement of the Society for Biofactors. „Clinical studies show that this combination improves the resilience and performance of the vulnerable and pre-damaged heart, stabilizes the heart rhythm and also lowers elevated blood pressure,“ emphasized Prof. Schmidt. According to the experts, a magnesium deficiency can be recognized by symptoms such as muscle tremors, muscle twitching, calf cramps, tension, cramps, headache, heart stuttering, tightness in the chest, brittle fingernails, tooth decay and sleep disorders. Ingestion of sufficient magnesium is of particular importance to the health of the Society for Biofactors. (Fp)
