Many people are allergic to nickel. While the rejection rate for jewelery parts and closures fell from 10% to 4.9% due to exceeding the legal limits, in 2014 more plugs of earrings or piercing jewelery were criticized (17.4%) than in the last survey in 2008 (14%). The highest concentrations found in the 556 samples tested exceeded the limits by a factor of ten.

Chromium VI can cause allergies in many people. In commodities made of leather such as jackets, gloves, shoes or watch straps, Chrome VI must therefore be analytically undetectable. Nevertheless, chromium VI was frequently found among the 386 samples tested. Thus, the detection limit was exceeded in 16% of the measurements. Especially often were gloves and finger cots (33% exceedances), backpacks, cases and bags (25%), workwear (23%) and shoes (13%) burdened.
