Salmonella has been found to be contaminated in various Asian spices. It is expressly warned against the consumption of the affected products. The bacteria can trigger various diseases.

Harmful bacteria discovered in spices
The Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) warns on its website of various spices that could be contaminated with harmful bacteria. On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG), AGES informs that contamination with Salmonella has been detected in the products "Jeera Powder" (ground cumin) and "Dhania Powder" (ground coriander). The products are available in Asia shops, among others in Austria and Germany. It is expressly warned against the consumption of the goods.

Cumin and coriander from India
"Jeera (Cumin) Powder" (Ground Cumin) was produced by Indian manufacturer "Mr D.A. Godfather "and distributed by the British" TRS Wholesale Company Ltd ". The batch numbers P353340 and P200116 with the best before date 30.06.2017 (P200116) or 31.12.2017 (P353340) are affected. "Dhania (Coriander) Powder" was prepared by "Anil & Co" (India) and also sold by the "TRS Wholesale Company Ltd" of Great Britain. Here is the batch number A481514 with the best before date 31.12.2017 affected.

Do not consume affected products
The AGES emphasizes on the website that this warning does not state "that the health of the goods was caused by the producer, manufacturer, importer or distributor". The agency asks consumers not to consume existing products, but to dispose of them immediately or to complain to the distributor. The official Food Inspectorate of the Länder monitors the recall and, if necessary, takes further action.

Salmonella can cause disease
Salmonella are bacteria that can cause various diseases in humans, especially in the gastrointestinal area. After eating it may cause discomfort such as abdominal pain, fever, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Especially in infants, people with weakened immune systems and seniors, such symptoms can occur.
