Long-term investigation Women in red should be sexually permissive
Color meaning: Women dressed in red are considered more sexually permissive
In the 1980s, the Irish singer dedicated a song to the woman in red. In the song "Lady in Red," he sang about how "beautiful" the woman looked in it, and its implications for men. The color red is commonly associated with eroticism. Women in red are considered sexually liberal.
Red is associated with self-confidence and eroticism
A few weeks ago, Hamburg researchers reported on the results of a long-term study that concluded that women are more adventurous and self-confident in sex today. The color red is generally associated with self-esteem but also with love, passion and eroticism. Women in red clothes, with red lipstick or with red fingernails are apparently perceived by men as much more attractive. But it is true that they are more sexually liberal?
Women in red are perceived as rivals
According to a report by the "Hamburger Abendblatt", a research team led by Adam D. Pazda of the University of Mannheim found that women dressed in red are seen as rivals by other women. According to the information, they are described as more liberal and less faithful than women who dress in other colors. For the study, the researchers divided 196 women into two groups and showed them either a photo of a woman in a white or a red dress. On average, the women in a red wardrobe were attributed a higher sexual readiness by the study participants than the white-robed gender comrade.
White is associated with innocence
In another round, the participants doubted much more the loyalty of the woman in the red dress than the loyalty of the woman who dressed in white. But because these results may also be due to the fact that the color white is associated with innocence, a third study was carried out. A woman with a red shirt was compared to a woman wearing a green shirt. And here, too, the red-robed woman was again assumed a greater sexual readiness.
Men and women perceive color red differently
The participating women who were in a relationship should, in another round, state whether they would try to keep the women away from their friend. It turned out that test subjects often did not want to leave the woman dressed in red alone with her partner. The researchers suspect that this effect also occurs in colors such as black or pink, because they are also perceived as provocative. According to the scientists, the study shows that the color red is perceived by both men and women as a sexual signal. Accordingly, women would perceive this as negative or threatening. Men, on the other hand, would regard women dressed in red as attractive. (Ad)
