Cheese contains a lot of calcium

01/10/2015

Calcium is considered to be extremely important for healthy bones and teeth as well as for blood pressure. Especially much of the mineral is contained in cheese. But also different types of vegetables, such as broccoli or kale are rich in calcium.

For healthy bones and teeth
According to a news agency dpa, Calcium is important for healthy bones and teeth as well as for blood pressure. According to the German Society for Nutrition (DGE) about 1,000 milligrams of calcium per day are recommended for adults. A lot of the mineral is in cheese. With up to 1,300 milligrams per 100 grams of cheese can therefore already cover a good part of the daily calcium needs. Milk and yoghurt are only about 120 milligrams per 100 grams, as the Bavarian Bayerische Milchwirtschaft states. Important calcium suppliers are also vegetables such as broccoli, kale and rocket.

Not too much and not too little
Calcium (calcium) not only strengthens and stabilizes bones and teeth, but it is also involved in basic body functions such as the flow of information in the nerves, blood clotting and muscle tension. Also for the activation of enzymes and hormone regulation, the mineral is needed. Calcium deficiency can cause muscle spasms or sometimes rickets or osteoporosis. The intake of calcium should not be too high. Several studies in recent years have suggested that overconsumption of high calcium supplements has increased the risk of vascular occlusion and myocardial infarction. (Ad)
