Weather reversal as a cause of circulatory problems

29/01/2013

Snow, ice, then sunshine and spring heat: The weather is apparently crazy these days - and causes many people uncomfortable complaints. According to the medical meteorologist Christina Koppe of the German Weather Service (DWD), the reason for this is that the body has not yet been converted: „The body has adjusted to the cold, he now has to get used to the warmer weather“, so the expert.

Weather changes promote sleep disorders and headaches
For normal healthy people, switching from winter to spring does not pose a problem for the expert, because a healthy organism gets along well with it. „It is critical for people who are battered and have conversion difficulties - there may be fatigue and fatigue occur. And if you are unreasonable and do not dress properly, you can get an infection more easily“, so Koppe.

When the thermometer rises, the body reacts with an expansion of the vessels, which means that the blood pressure has to be adjusted accordingly - for people with a rather low blood pressure, the warmer temperatures at the moment would therefore often cause symptoms such as dizziness or sleep disorders, the expert said.

People with migraines or headaches, according to Christina Koppe, could also cause physical problems at the moment, so those affected should be prepared for this and, if possible, try to spare their own energy reserves.

Nice weather forecast for this week bad for allergy sufferers
For allergy sufferers, increasing temperatures mean in many cases complaints, because the mild climate increases the pollen count of hazel and alder. Therefore, the expert after every one who is allergic to these early bloomers, expect in the coming days with complaints, because after the freezing temperatures of the last two weeks almost spring-like temperatures are expected in the course of this week.

According to forecasts by the German Weather Service (DWD) on Wednesday, the temperatures reach maximum values between 8 degrees in the north and locally 16 degrees in the Breisgau - on Saturday morning, however, were measured in parts of Saxony almost minus 20 degrees, causing a rise in temperature of almost 30 Degree would mean. But despite a little warmth, the spring seems to be still waiting - because according to the DWD is expected from Friday again with lower temperatures.

To protect yourself as an allergic person a little from the pollen, according to Christina Koppe could help some little tricks: „One piece of advice would be to wash your hair every night and flush out the pollen that got caught in it. And you should only air at times of day, when little pollen fly. In the country is the highest load in the early morning, in the city it is the other way round - there you should air in the morning.“

Cold increases the risk of infectious diseases
But the temporary increase in temperature not only makes people's mood better, but also has other positive effects - because in very cold temperatures, according to Christina Koppe there is an increased risk of infectious diseases: „At the end of winter, our immune system is in poor condition due to vitamin D deficiency, plus the dry air in winter when it's cold outside - that's not optimal. Due to the cold, our mucous membranes are less well supplied with blood, so the anti-virus does not work so well.“

Note difference between weather-sensitive and weather-sensitive
Persons who are in principle easily react to weather changes with physical discomfort, advises the expert to training, could help here already changing showers and sauna sessions and the panacea fresh air - because regular walks would be the simplest means to strengthen the body against physical discomfort during weather changes.

But even if this is generally from „meteorosensitivity“ is spoken - according to the meteorologist Eva Wanka, it is important in this context between „meteorosensitivity“ and „Weather sensitivity“ to distinguish. For those who respond to temperature fluctuations rather subjective and nonspecific, would be in science as „wetterfühlig“ designates and reacts very positively to changing showers and saunas. The reason for this is the amount of time that is usually spent indoors, according to Wanka - with deliberately induced temperature changes, everyone can therefore train their body to adapt to new weather conditions more quickly.

However, if you already have pre-existing conditions, such as Heart or lung disease, or has a very weak or unusually high blood pressure and physically responsive to the weather, is considered from a scientific perspective „weather sensitive“ designated. According to Eva Wanka, patients should be careful and not work out on their own - instead, talk to the doctor beforehand about possible risks and jointly devise sensible training for better adaptability.
