(19.09.2010) Eleven months, a German 39-year-old coma patient was treated in a Thai hospital. Today, after a long wait, the man is finally flown to Germany in the Bavarian city of Bamberg.

For eleven months, the coma patient spent in a hospital in Thailand. Relatives could not pay the transfer. Many media had previously reported that the man was in Thailand „been forgotten“. But now relatives could raise enough financial means by a donation action, so that the affected person can be brought to his home country to Bavaria. Only through the many donations was this possible. Because the flight has to be looked after by a doctor and costs a total of 10,000 euros. According to the Thai clinic, the aircraft has already started and on its way to Germany.

Just over 11 months ago, on October 25, 2009, the man was taken to a hospital after suffering a head injury at Hat Yai City Airport. The patient subsequently fell into a coma. The clinic and German authorities had always tried in the run-up to a solution. In early August, the hospital, the patient so slowly back from the coma. However, the man could not speak yet. The state of health is appropriate to the circumstances.

A coma is an expression of a serious disorder or damage to the cerebrum function. The comatose state is life-threatening for the person affected. A coma is not a disease in itself, but a symptom of damage to the brain. The further medical prognosis depends on the health care of the patient. (Sb)
