Store cherries with the stem in a cool place
Cherries last long with stalk and stored cool
06/29/2012
Cherries are among the favorites among summer fruit varieties. They are sweet and juicy. The small vitamin bombs contain a lot of vitamin C, which supports the immune system, plenty of B vitamins such as folic acid and the minerals potassium and iron. When cherries with stalk are stored cool, they remain fresh the longest.
Cherries do not ripen after the harvest
Like the Federal Association of Producer Organizations Fruits and Vegetables (BVEO) to the news agency „dpa“ reported that cherries last up to three days when stored cool and the stalk is not previously removed. To avoid rinsing out the aroma, cherries should always be washed with a stalk.
The degree of ripeness of the cherry can be recognized by how solid and green the style is. If it is flabby and yellowish-brownish in color, that is a sign of less fresh goods. Since cherries do not ripen after more of the harvest, consumers should only buy bright red colored, fully ripened cherries. According to the BVEO, stoning the fruit is best if it lingers in the freezer for a few minutes. The cores were then easier to remove. (Ag)
