Can that be true? Customer bought 10-year-old salami pack at Aldi Süd
Wurstpackung by Aldi: Is the BBD actually correct?
Although experts point out that many foods last longer than the date of best before date, at some point a time is reached when it is not recommended to eat for health reasons. For example, if the BBD was years ago, as in a sausage pack, a customer of Aldi Süd found.
Avoid food waste
Every year millions of tons of food land in the garbage: "11 million tons of food are thrown away every year in Germany," writes the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection Baden-Württemberg on its website. "65 percent of these discarded foods are so-called avoidable wastes, which are foods that are still edible at the time of discarding," say the experts. But food waste can be avoided. For example, by checking whether or not they are still edible for foods whose expiry date has expired. This is probably too late for a sausage pack from Aldi Süd.
A customer of Aldi has discovered a salami pack, on which a nearly ten year old MHD is printed. Maybe it is a misprint. (Image: macondos / fotolia.com)Ten years ago expired sausage?
Sebastian L. from the North Rhine-Westphalian Goch posted a photo of a salami pack on Facebook, on which the MHD 02.10.2008 can be seen.
He obviously could not believe that the sausage had been running for almost ten years. "I hope that's a misprint ...", he wrote to Aldi Süd.
The company also answered him quickly and thanked for the hint. "We would like to forward this to the responsible supplier," wrote a member of the Aldi Süd team.
He asked for information about the place of purchase, so that the supplier could give a competent answer as soon as possible.
"Of course you can return the salami in one of our stores or exchange," said the discounter. (Ad)
