British doctors have investigated the drinking behavior of secret agent James Bond. The study found that 007 drinks far too much and has to fear potency problems. In addition, it is reported that migraine shaped the music of Richard Wagner.
Alcoholics 007 would have to reconsider its drinking behavior
Shaken, not stirred! One of the best known sayings in film history. However, according to British doctors, the legendary secret agent James Bond has consumed far too many martinis and as alcoholics urgently needs to reconsider their drinking habits. Patrick Davies, of Nottingham University, and colleagues had scrutinized Ian Fleming's James Bond novels and counted how many times 007 reached for the glass. The result of the not quite serious study was in the current issue of the journal „British Medical Journal“ released.
Five bottles of wine in one day
The medical team calculated that the agent consumes an average of 92 alcohol units per week. This is equivalent to 30 vodka martini, 10 bottles of wine, or four times what British health authorities recommend as an upper limit. The highlight was in the book „From Moscow with love“ reached: 007 had taken in one day 50 units, so 16 martinis, or five bottles of wine. The health of the agent is thereby massively endangered. Among other threats potency disorders. „His risk of suffering from a sexual dysfunction is great. That could significantly affect his constant stories about women“, so the researchers. James Bond also has an increased risk of hypertension, depression, liver cancer and liver cirrhosis.
Do not always laugh well
The „British Medical Journal“ (BMJ) also deals with the dangers of laughter in his special Christmas edition. The researchers around Robin Ferner of the University Hospital Birmingham write in the article that laughter is by no means always healthy. Although low laughter reduces the risk of heart attack, it burns calories and in some circumstances increases fertility in women. But at the same time excessive laughter in extreme cases can also cause heart problems and lead to incontinence or an asthma attack. According to the researchers, however, humor generally entails a low risk and can also be salutary.
Wagner composed with a headache
Laughing would have done well to Richard Wagner, the composer suffered from migraine. An article in the BMJ is also dedicated to this topic. According to the opinion of scientists around the Kiel pain researcher Hartmut Göbel, Wagner used his severe headache creatively. The researchers name Wagner's opera as an example „Siegfried“. This begins with an increasing, pulsating drums, which in one „almost painful, rhythmic beating“ The End. The main character screams at the climax: „Compulsive plague! Effortless without purpose!“ The scientists say that the composer processed a migraine attack in this episode. While Wagner on „Siegfried“ worked, he complained of a headache. The music has the characteristics of a typical migraine attack.
Probably pure invention
In contrast to his lifestyle, James Bond enjoys good health. Even after innumerable martinis he could still master very complicated tasks and was extremely vital, the British researchers conclude: „That's probably pure invention.“ They also ventured a prognosis regarding the life expectancy of the agent. Regardless of the dangers posed by his numerous enemies, he is unlikely to survive his author. Ian Fleming died after a life full of alcohol and cigarettes at the age of 56. (Ad)
