iPhone app detects dioxin tried eggs

09/01/2011

The scandal over dioxin contaminated eggs in commerce is expanding almost daily. This is increasingly fueling a great uncertainty among consumers. Even eggs from organic farms could be affected, as some media reports show.

At least owners of a smartphone from Apple can now scan the barcode with an iPhone application (Apps) in the supermarket to find out if the eggs of the manufacturer Dioxin are charged. To do this, open the program and scan the barcode. The program will now show if the eggs may be contaminated. If so, will be displayed „Attention, these eggs are most likely contaminated with dioxin! Please dispose of these eggs immediately, otherwise you seriously endanger your health.“

Anyone who owns an Iphone or soon the new Iphone 5, can download the application for free in the I-Tunes Store. Manufacturer of the apps is „barcoo“. By the way, the program also bears the same name. According to some user opinions, the program should actually work well and flawlessly. In addition to the dioxin warning, the program also includes other food product information such as a „Eco-Ranking“, Sustainability information, flavor additives information and a food traffic light, which i.a. indicates the fat, sugar and carbohydrate content of the food. Again, just the barcode has to be read out.

Dioxin-contaminated foods cause the risk of cancer to skyrocket. Unlike other pollutants, dioxin settles in the body and is no longer excreted. (Sb)
