Hardly any health insurance company hangs out of the window as far as the Innungskrankenkasse IKK Südwest. Although other health insurance companies exclude additional contributions, but only "probably this year and next year". However, IKK Südwest already guarantees its policyholders to waive additional contributions until 2014. "We are very healthy, we have high reserves and we have a good insured structure, which sets us apart from most of our competitors," says Frank Spaniol, CEO of IKK Südwest. "Therefore, we can definitively rule out additional costs for our members by 2014". The basis for the decision are the still solid finances of IKK Südwest. After IKK again closed the first half of 2011 with a plus of 19.7 million euros, the insured persons of IKK Südwest should benefit directly from the stable financial position. "At a time when nationwide debates are being made about the tight financial situation of health insurance companies, we are sending out a clear signal and contributing to the financial relief of our members in the long term," explains Gerhard Freiler, Chairman of the Board of Directors of IKK Südwest. "We will continue to offer our policyholders a significant price advantage in the future due to their low administration costs, targeted cost management and sound financial policies," Freiler adds.

The health insurance assumes that it is one of the "most economical health insurance companies in Germany". It is therefore expected "due to the significant difference in price compared to many competitors with an above-average membership growth." If another fund raises an additional contribution, then the insured persons can make use of their special right of termination. Cash registers, which already raised additional contributions, had to fight with sometimes fierce member exits. Apparently, IKK Südwest assumes that competitors will have to make additional contributions in the coming year due to their financial situation. Currently around 680,000 people are insured with IKK Südwest. (Sb)
