Hypnosis Congress shows new approaches and methods
International Hypnosis Congress in Bremen debates new research approaches and possible applications
17/10/2012
Today, Wednesday, the 19th International Hypnosis Congress begins in Bremen. Doctors, scientists, psychologists and experts from all over the world meet until Sunday to discuss new techniques and research results of hypnosis. According to the organizers, more than 2,200 physicians, dentists and psychotherapists from almost 40 countries will participate.
Approved therapy method
Since 2006, hypnosis has been recognized as a therapeutic procedure by the Scientific Advisory Council on Psychotherapy. But because on the show stages usually with the help of the Blitzhypnose a wrong picture over the helpful form of therapy is mediated, are still many humans of the Hypnotherapie very critically opposite. For on the stages and on television mostly willless people are shown, who imitate for example animals in hypnosis or perform actions that reveal ridicule. „But hypnosis is a very old process that is used in many cultures for healing purposes“ explain the organizers of the congress. In addition, the hypnosis has „developed into a modern technology, which has been scientifically evaluated in many studies“. It is today one of the recognized therapeutic and healing methods in conventional medicine.
300 speakers from 33 countries are invited. This makes the congress the biggest in its field. Invited is the Milton Erickson Society for Clinical Hypnosis. In five days, participants will learn more about new techniques, research and applications. Workshops, classical lectures and panel discussions are planned for this purpose.
Hypnosis in dentistry
Co-organizer Albrecht Schmierer reports that hypnosis is increasingly used in anxiety patients in dental practices. Hypnosis shows up as „a quick and effective help to reduce fears“. Therefore, some seminars are dedicated to this topic in particular, because many people before the treatments at the dentist feel real fears. But other fears such as test anxiety, stage fright or phobias before medical examinations are topics of the events.
Effective therapy for anxiety
Up to two million people in Germany suffer from anxiety symptoms, reports Paul Janouch, who attended the event during the congress „Hypnotherapy for anxiety disorders“ referenced. Janouch's hypnosis therapy, however, does not want to revise negative behaviors but to see and use the symptoms as a patient's resource. The expert wants to present the new procedure in a seminar.
During hypnosis, patients are put into a trance-like state. This can provide access to the subconscious and unconscious resources. According to the organizer Bernhard Trenkle, people have the ability to pay close attention to the interior. During the hypnotic state, undiscovered potentials, forgotten abilities and self-healing powers can be explored and finally activated.
Altered body experience during hypnosis
In hypnosis, there is an altered experience of the body. In the beginning, the eyelids typically flicker and movements of the closed eyes can become visible. Hypnotized people report that they usually feel lighter, heavier or stiff during the trance-like state. Not infrequently there are also involuntary movements of the arms or legs. Patients report that the feeling of anxiety and pain subsides and often a tingling sensation is felt on different extremities.
Other topics of the events are the use of hypnosis in medicine, sleep disorders, depression, smoking cessation, for mental support in sports and in child and adolescent psychotherapy. Hypnosis can also be helpful in couples therapy, chronic pain, obsessive-compulsive disorder and preparation for childbirth.
For the first time in ten years, the worldwide Hypnosis Congress will again take place in Germany. Organizer is the International Hypnosis Society. (Sb)
