Frequent rejection of mother-child cures
Mother-child cures are rejected too often by the health insurance companies.
(11.07.2010) Too often, the statutory health insurance companies reject mother-and-child cures, as the Maternal Welfare Organization (MGW) currently reports. For example, almost every third cure in the state of Brandenburg is now rejected by the coffers. Nationwide, there is also a cause for concern, the rejection rate for treatment applications is currently around 31 percent. In the first quarter of 2010, occupancy declines of recognized MGW mother-child facilities were already around 20 percent compared to the same period in 2008.
The non-profit foundation MGW is Germany's largest spa provider for cures for mothers and children. The treatment offers, for example, back pain, depression or acute sleep disorders. The slamming health insurance funds apparently caused a decline in urgently needed spa treatments. The Müttergenesungswerk criticized meanwhile the attitude of the health insurance companies. As Anne Schilling, Managing Director of the MGW said, "Here is saved at the expense of mothers who often no longer have the strength to go long paths of opposition. The order of health insurance for their insured is another." The association estimates that around 2.1 million mothers need a cure. (Sb)
