Homeopathy during menopause
Homeopathy as an aid in menopausal complaints
08/10/2014
With the menopause begins for the woman a new phase of life. But the associated, far-reaching hormonal changes are not always symptom-free. Around a third of women in this period of change suffer from severe physical and mental symptoms, with the help of homeopathy
can be alleviated.
On average, menopause - the last menstrual period - starts at the age of 52. However, some women already report the first signs of onset of menopause at the age of 40. The years before and after menopause are characterized by hormonal changes in the body. How this is experienced is very individual. Already with the diminished production of the female hormone estrogen (premenopause) first symptoms can appear. The list of menopausal symptoms is long: This includes, for example, cycle disorders, hot flashes, sweating and blotchy red skin on the head, neck and upper body. It can also cause headaches, dizziness, skin tingling and palpitations.
Some women also suffer from weight gain, bleeding gums or under a dry vagina during menopause. As a result of these symptoms often appear more emotional symptoms. The sufferers then suffer, for example, from fatigue, loss of performance and insomnia. Often they are irritable and nervous. There may be depressive mood, feelings of weakness and anxiety. In many cases, the physical and emotional symptoms also have a negative effect on the sexual life of women.
Do I need hormone replacement therapy??
It is known that hormone replacement therapy (HET) is bought in menopausal women with an increased risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease (cardiovascular events). For these reasons, well-trained conventional physicians usually recommend the lowest possible dosages and short therapy duration. The causes of this restrained use of conventional medical standard therapy are the results of large studies that have been available since 2002. The study by the American Woman's Health Initiative (WHI study) and the British „One Million Women“-Studies have shown that various hormone preparations increase the risk of developing breast cancer. This is especially true for the combined preparations containing estrogen and progestin. By taking the hormone preparations also increases the risk of thrombosis, strokes and heart attacks significantly.
The Federal Office for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) is responsible for protecting the German population from drugs whose risk-benefit ratio is unfavorable. That's why the BfArM only recommends HET for severe menopausal symptoms. The lowest effective dose should be used for as short a period of no more than 1-2 years. „However, it should only be done after the exclusion of risk factors for cardiovascular diseases“, so the BfArM.
What can Homeopathy do??
In homeopathy, the individual symptoms are not considered in isolation from each other, but in their totality of body, mind and soul. In concrete terms, the homeopathic anamnesis records all of the patient's symptoms, so that the doctor can give a homeopathic medicine that exactly matches the entirety of the individual symptoms. Ultimately, the homeopathic doctor treats all menopausal symptoms that occur with a single homeopathic remedy. It is this holistic approach of homeopathy that is so convincing in the case of menopause.
Although menopausal symptoms are not a disease, their homeopathic treatment is very demanding due to the complexity of the symptoms. Homeopathic doctors therefore advise against self-medication. (Homeopathy Foundation of the German Central Association of Homeopathic Physicians)
