While the hay fever patients can breathe freely in the winter, house dust allergy suffer in the cold season usually more than in the summer months. Like the pharmacy journal „Baby and family“ reported in their current issue, the mites often cause the house dust allergy sufferer in winter particularly.
The pharmacy magazine „Baby and family“ already devoted to the previous issue in the series „Allergies in children“ in detail the various forms of allergic reactions - from insect venom allergies, pollen allergies and hay fever to allergic reactions to animal hair. The current issue addresses the difficulties faced by house dust allergy sufferers, with experts explicitly addressing the increased risk in winter.
House dust allergy sufferers find no peace in winter
As the pharmacy journal reports, the allergy-causing dust mites cause the allergy sufferers in winter particularly hard. The tiny little animals are mainly in bed, which is why sufferers in the morning after getting sick suffer from colds and sneezing attacks. Since the mites living on dander, house dust and mold fungi can best reproduce in the warm, humid climate of the heated interior, and the allergy sufferers usually spend more time in the winter than in summer, the strain of the cold season often increases. Thus, the house dust allergy sufferers do not find peace even in winter, but suffer particularly strongly from their allergy, said Ernst Rietschel of the Center for Pediatric and Youth Medicine of the University of Cologne in the current article.
Prevent house dust allergies
As a possible countermeasure, the experts recommend regular ventilation, the use of mite-proof sheets and duvet covers, which should be washed regularly and increased vacuuming. Also, no plants should be positioned in the bedroom, the statement in the pharmacy magazine. Since house dust mites die off relatively quickly in freezing temperatures, the mattress can also be put outside during the winter in order to free them from allergy-causing animals. In children who suffer from a house dust allergy, should also be handled with the stuffed animals, the experts advise. However, the stuffed animals can also be placed at regular intervals in the freezer, reports the pharmacy magazine. Under certain circumstances, according to the current article, a hyposensitization is also available in order to relieve the children of their symptoms in the long term. (Fp)
