In bright sunshine and summery temperatures, most people enjoy spending their free time outdoors. Those who spend too long and unprotected outside are in danger of getting sunburned. Patients are often advised to use home remedies such as quark. Does that really help?
Every sunburn increases the risk of skin cancer

Suddenly you realize that the skin is tight, painful and red. It is best not to get so far, because every sunburn is added to your own skin account and increases the risk of developing skin cancer.
Ensure adequate sun protection
In order to prevent a sunburn, one should orient oneself according to experts always at the UV index and sufficiently with sun cream einschmieren. It should also be noted that sand and water reflect the harmful UV radiation and therefore there is a particular danger when swimming. Especially in the elderly, a good sunscreen is particularly important because their skin is more sensitive.
Effective natural home remedies

Concerned people are advised to drink a lot of water because a sunburn removes fluid from the body. Externally, among other things, Aloe Vera or healing clay is recommended to relieve the symptoms. Quark is also a common home remedy for sunburn.

Helps Quark with sunburn?
However, the advice "Quark helps" is not shared by everyone. Claas Ulrich, Senior Physician and Head of the Skin Tumor Center at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, said in a message from the news agency dpa: "Of course, that's not something you can really recommend." The doctor recommends gently cooling the inflammation, for example with the help of a cooling lotion, a nourishing milk or cream.
Do not cool affected skin with ice
In severe sunburns, according to Ulrich, the intake of an anti-inflammatory substance may be useful - once up to one gram of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). According to the experts, cortisone as a hydrocortisone lotion from the pharmacy or in an emergency as a tablet by the doctor in case of severe sunburn only the reserve solution. Both can mitigate the course of a sunburn a bit.
Ulrich warns against cooling a sunburn with cool packs or ice. Since the skin is already damaged by the sunburn, it can no longer protect itself properly; there is a risk of frostbite. (Ad)
