Ecological alternative for the environment and health: Better waxing than lead casting
12/30/2011
If you want to take a look into the future with lead casting on tomorrow's New Year's Eve, you should be aware that it will not do you any harm to the environment or your health, because heating the lead will produce toxic lead oxide. The consumer initiative advises waxing instead of pouring lead.
Lead belongs in the hazardous waste
When lead is heated, toxic lead oxide is released and released into the air. When inhaled, the toxic fumes enter the body and can cause massive damage to health. The Consumers Initiative reports that lead necessarily belongs to hazardous waste. However, since water and lead are often not properly disposed of on New Year's Eve, it is released into the environment where lead organic compounds form. These were among some of the strongest environmental toxins. They deposit themselves in the fatty tissue of animals and thus penetrate the food chain and the human organism. As an environmentally friendly alternative, the consumer initiative advises waxing.
Even small amounts of lead daily can lead to chronic lead poisoning
While an acute lead poisoning is only triggered by large amounts of lead, it can lead to chronic lead poisoning with serious consequences by the daily intake of small amounts of lead (about one milligram per day) over a longer period. Lead is released from the body only slowly and accumulates mainly in the bones instead of calcium. Serious damage to the nervous system, blood formation and kidneys can occur. In addition, lead poisoning can cause fertility problems.
Gift cocktail by rockets and guns
Those who want to really let it jump at the turn of the year, usually reluctant to boilers and missiles. However, the Consumers Initiative also warns against the toxic cocktail that is released into the environment. Environmental Officer Catrin Krueger explains: „The environment is burdened with around 8,000 tonnes of dust, 200 tonnes of carbon monoxide, 1,900 tonnes of sulfur dioxide and 1,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide, as well as nitrogen oxides and other unknown compounds.“ This toxic chemical lobe then falls down on plants, soils and waters and thus represents an enormous burden on the environment and humans. „Less is for the environment, but also for the wallet, more“, advises the Environmental Officer of the Consumer Initiative, because „unfortunately there is not yet an environmentally friendly New Year's Eve party.“ (Ag)
