Healthy diet and sports are good for the eyes

It is not a coincidence for all people that they have healthy eyes. It may also be because they eat healthily and exercise a lot. Studies have shown that high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels can lead to vision organ disease, such as glaucoma.
Sport lowers intraocular pressure
Whoever moves a lot and feeds healthy, sometimes does something good for his eyes. As the German Ophthalmological Society (DOG) announced, according to a news agency dpa, studies have shown that sport lowers intraocular pressure. The pressure increases again after the sport, but it takes longer, until it has returned to a too high value. This is especially important for eye diseases such as the green star. As a risk factor for glaucoma is an intraocular pressure of more than 21 mmHg.
Elevated blood lipid level is a glaucoma risk factor
According to the DOG, hypertension and increased blood lipid levels also seem to be further risk factors. According to studies, every second glaucoma patient has high blood pressure and one in three high blood lipid levels or diabetes. Such factors damage the vessels. According to DOG probably also the vessels that supply the optic nerve and the retina. As a result, the intraocular pressure increases and vision diminishes. According to other experts, a deviant blood pressure (especially a highly fluctuating and a very low blood pressure) is a risk factor for glaucoma.
Nocturnal Breathing
Furthermore, experts see sleep apnea as a further risk, so nocturnal breathing mishaps. According to the DOG, the lack of oxygen seems to damage the eyes. One option that could help sufferers against these dropouts are lower jaw splints. In some patients, surgical measures are taken or a special sleep mask is used for therapy. If the sleep disorders are not organic, treatment by sleep coaching can help. A combination of hypnotherapy and Gestalt therapy is used. (Ad)
