Better wake up by having breakfast in the fresh air

05/14/2012

Who belongs to the owls in the morning and not „gets in the way“ should lay the breakfast on sunny days in the fresh air. The sun's rays, the light and the oxygen help the body to find the right rhythm, as Prof. Till Roenneberg of the Munich Ludwig-Maximilians-University advises. The awakening is then much easier.

In summer, working people should use their balcony or terrace for breakfast. Those who refuel a lot of light and fresh air in the morning, ensure more harmony with their inner clock, explains Prof. Till Roenneberg in Munich. Many people experience the ringing of their alarm clock in the morning as „too early“. The internal clock signals to the late-sleepers that it is far from the time to leave the bed prematurely. Getting up and getting into gear is very difficult. However, the sunlight can help to facilitate the early start of the day, as the expert advises.

Do not darken the bedroom
Many people darken their bedrooms. However, it is bad for sleep habits to sleep in completely darkened rooms, reports the professor. If the light is missing, the organism loses every clue, whether it is time to sleep or to wake up. As a result, many lose touch with their natural need for sleep. Better to go to bed at fixed and recurring times. „The more regularly you sleep, the more effective sleep becomes“, says Prof. Roenneberg. The body then adjusts itself to certain times and knows when it is time to settle down or get up.

A recent study found that many people suffer from social jet lag. As a result, the risk of being overweight and therefore also for diabetes or cardiovascular disease increases. (Sb)
