Breakfast increases concentration
Concentrated work by morning breakfast

Breakfasts provide the body with the energy for a positive start to the day. The morning food intake recharges the empty batteries and increases the ability to concentrate, according to Margret Morlo of the Association for Nutrition and Dietetics to the news agency „dpa“. However, the right choice of food plays a crucial role here. High-fat foods should be better avoided according to the expert.
Many people regularly drop the morning breakfast because they lack the appetite in the morning or prefer to sleep a little longer than taking their time for breakfast. However, this is a disadvantage for the concentration in the rest of the day. Because „after the night, the batteries of the body are empty“, As the body consumes energy for the heartbeat and maintaining body temperature while sleeping, the expert from the Association for Nutrition and Dietetics explained. Professionals who start the day without breakfast are therefore less focused, more tired and slower in their activities.
Whole wheat bread, cereals and fruits for breakfast
Ideally, the day should start with a light balanced breakfast consisting of a cereal or a full-grain wholemeal bread. For this purpose could „Tea, coffee or water are drunk“, explained Morlo. Fruit for breakfast is also recommended by nutritionists. High-fat foods such as liver and tea sausage or a lot of spread fat, however, according to the expert at breakfast better to avoid, otherwise the body was too busy with the digestion, which has a negative effect on the ability to concentrate at work. If there is no time for breakfast in the morning, at least a glass of juice or milk should be drunk at home, Morlo emphasized. However, she pointed out that this was nothing more than a drop in the ocean. At the latest at work, the body must then be supplied with energy in the form of food.
Breakfast also important for students
In August last year, researchers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) published a study examining, among other things, the effect of breakfast on the motor performance of students. According to this, children of school age were much more efficient when they had breakfast in the morning. The study director Isabelle Aeberli from the working group for Human Nutrition at the ETH emphasized that her „Study highlights the importance of regular breakfast for schoolchildren.“ Previous studies have also shown that children are more likely to struggle with concentration problems and cognitive decline if they go to school without a previous breakfast. Particularly disturbing is therefore the result of a study commissioned by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2011, according to which in Germany every third child leaves without breakfast in the morning.
