Majority of German women reject Botox for wrinkle smoothing

14/09/2011

Cosmetic surgery or treatment with the neurotoxin Botox are out of the question for a majority of German women to treat problem areas. Most, however, rely on a healthy diet, exercise and cosmetic applications.

Only a little more than one percent of German women have ever used the neurotoxin Botox to smooth out wrinkles, as a representative survey by GfK Marktforschung commissioned by „pharmacy magazine“ revealed. Botox (botulinum toxin) as such is a recurrent theme in the press, because the drug is even said to have positive effects in the treatment of migraine by means of studies. However, experts doubted the data in the study and said that in every tenth patient the headache symptoms would even be amplified. What is widespread in the US does not have to be used in Germany, as the latest survey results show.

Celebrities whose laughter looks frozen and whose facial features look like they're clinging with a clamp: these are images of stars that seem to be preventing many people from helping the alleged skin beauty with artificial or surgical measures. In the Apotheken Umschau survey, 70.1 percent of the women surveyed said they would not be eligible for Botox treatment for wrinkle treatment. Only about 2.1 percent of respondents said they had undergone plastic surgery to tighten the skin. Only about 1.1 percent of women said they had already been given Botox injections for wrinkle therapy.

Most women, however, rely more on a healthy lifestyle, exercise and skin creams. Every second said she is well-balanced and healthy in her diet to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. Every third survey participant lives alcohol-abstinent and 20 percent avoid excessive sun exposure.

In fact, the proportion of women who use cosmetic utensils was high. 41.7 percent said they would use special wrinkle treatments such as scrubs, masks or concentrates at least once a quarter to nourish the skin and reduce wrinkles. Over 33 percent said they use a face cream with an SPF and 25 percent said they use an anti-wrinkle cream every day. Almost as many (22.5 percent) said they experimented with different anti-aging applications. The vast majority (88 percent) said they are very satisfied or satisfied with their skin.

Skin care with the help of naturopathy
The epidermis is responsible for the appearance of the outer skin. This is exposed to permanent environmental influences such as sun rays, environmental toxins or heating and air conditioning system air. Of course, the advancing age affects the aging process of the skin. Decisive factors include physical and psychological stress as well as diet and ways of life. In naturopathy, skin creams are made with herbal creams made from the fatty avocado, jojoba and almonds. Massages such as the traditional Thai massage also stimulate the blood circulation and facilitate the lymphatic flow. It is also important to adhere to the acid-base budget. Acidification of the body can also damage the skin. (Sb)
