Hand luggage rules for air travel: Contact lens remedies do not count as medicine
A few years ago, the rules for hand luggage in aircraft were further tightened. Since then, entrained liquids must not exceed a certain amount. An exception is liquid medication. However, contact lens agents are not included.

Medicines are in your hand luggage
Be it the holiday trip, a business meeting or a visit to a friend: the plane is at the top of the preferred means of transport. If you are preparing for a flight and are dependent on medicines, you should note that medicines always belong in your hand luggage. However, contact lens wearers should be aware that contact lens solutions are not considered to be a drug.

Maximum 100 milliliters per vessel
After the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York in 2001, stricter rules for air travel were introduced worldwide. For example, passengers in their hand luggage may not take more than one liter of liquids.

However, these are not medically classified liquids, but contact lens solutions are not.

According to a report by the news agency dpa, the airport operator Fraport in Frankfurt draws attention to the fact that contact lens agents are subject to the maximum feasible amount of 100 milliliters per single vessel.

"That's why contact lenses are also available in travel sizes," said a Fraport spokeswoman.

Although the passenger generally does not have to take into account the permissible total volume of one liter, according to Fraport this only applies to the medicine he needs during the flight. (Ad)
