The aircraft noise debate

Rising passenger numbers in aviation, construction projects and constantly new flight routes make aircraft noise an increased (health) problem. When talking about aircraft noise, it is generally about the issue of noise pollution, which is also influenced by busy roads and rail traffic, for example. According to studies by the Mainz University Medical Center, night-time noise causes an increased release of the stress hormone adrenaline and thus reduces the quality of sleep. The noise pollution causes constant conflicts between local residents and airport operators.

Noise can make you sick

Increased noise pollution is associated with numerous negative health consequences. The aircraft noise is suspected to promote serious diseases such as high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke. However, a clear connection could not be proven so far.

In particular, the mental health suffers from the constant noise. For example, studies have shown that increasing noise pollution causes an increase in anxiety and depression. The known effects of the noise include annoyance, anger, exhaustion and stress, which can permanently affect well-being, health and quality of life. (Vb)
