Basically, rest should be kept in an insect bite. If, however, an allergic reaction has already appeared in a bitten child, the rescue service should be called immediately via the telephone number 112.

Unfortunately, an insect venom allergy is often underestimated and although wasp stings can lead to death in an allergy.

An allergic reaction can be recognized among other things by a massive reddening and swelling, which does not only occur at the injection site.

Three million Germans are allergic to the stings
How important it is to observe insect bites and bites, in order to recognize an allergy, was confirmed by Prof. Dr. med. Thilo Jakob, Director of the Department of Dermatology and Allergology in Gießen.

"This knowledge can potentially be life-saving," says the expert. "About three million Germans are allergic to a wasp or bee sting and about twenty of them die from an allergic shock every year."

But even if no allergy is known or initially no allergic reactions occur, the pricked child should be observed. If it comes to certain complaints in the next few hours, a doctor should be called.

These symptoms include swelling of the mouth or throat, accelerated heartbeat, dizziness, fever or chills, difficulty breathing, rash, nausea and vomiting.

Simple home remedies have proven themselves
In case of an allergy shock first aid must be provided quickly. The affected child must be shocked until the doctor arrives. The body part with the puncture should be deeper than the heart.

Especially in the case of insect bites in the mouth, ice cubes are beneficial for sucking, so that the respiratory tract does not slow down.

In non-allergic people can usually ointments or insect pens and various home remedies for wasp stings and bee stings help.

These include, among others, the own saliva, which is rubbed on the stitch, as well as aloe vera, onions, fresh ribwort, clove oil, wraps of alumina and vinegar water or herbs from the garden such as parsley or basil.

Of outstanding importance, however, is: cool, cool, cool!

Avoid bee and wasp stings
Even better than the treatment of stitches is prevention. Although you can not keep your child from it with 100% certainty, some home remedies for wasps and bees can often keep insects away.

For example, the animals can be steered away from their own whereabouts by "feeding places" with overripe fruit or sugar water. In the house, fly screens can be helpful. Fallobst in the garden is best always quickly removed.

Bright clothes and perfumes attract wasps and bees and should therefore be avoided. In addition, children should not get dark water bottles, otherwise they can not see if there is an animal in their drink. (Ad)
