The Federal Statistical Office reports that in Germany more and more people have to be treated for obesity in a medical facility. From 2004 to 2008, the numbers have increased by 11 percent. Women are more strongly represented than men, and in Saxony-Anhalt the incidence is four times more frequent than in Berlin, for example.
In Germany, almost one in five is now obese. One important reason may be food intake, which often focuses on foods that are high in fat. Fresh food, vegetables and fruits are consumed less and less. Another reason could be the lack of movement of many people. A lot of sitting in the workplace is a serious factor.
