FDA caution with caffeine powder
Drug regulatory agency warns of caffeine powder
07/31/2014
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) specifically warns against caffeine powder from the Internet. The risk of overdose and damage to health is high.
A teaspoon of the caffeine powder offered on the internet would be about the caffeine content of 25 cups of coffee. Since the powder is difficult to dose, a lethal amount can easily be consumed. Also, overdose symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, dizziness, palpitations or disorientation are probably much stronger after ingestion of the pure substance than after too much coffee or tea consumption, according to the FDA.
In particular, young adults and adolescents like to resort to this because of the stimulating effect „stimulant“. Caffeine powder is also offered on German-language websites - including Amazon - as bulk in various container sizes - evidence of side effects are looking there, however, in vain. (Pm)
