smoking is dangerous for your health
The dangers of smoking have long been known. Among other things, smoking favors various types of cancer such as lung cancer or colon cancer, cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks, arterial diseases such as atherosclerosis (arteriosclerosis) or smoker's lungs. But far too many people are smoking. On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day on May 31, new numbers were released. According to a report by the dpa news agency in Fürth, the Bavarian State Office for Statistics and Data Processing announced that around one in five citizens in Bavaria (22 percent) smoke more or less regularly.
Almost a quarter calls itself an ex-smoker
According to the results of the 2013 microcensus, 73 percent of men and 82 percent of women in the Free State live as non-smokers. Older people, in particular, stated that they did not smoke: as non-smokers, 93 percent of men and 97 percent of women said they were over 75. For younger people, the numbers are significantly lower. Thus, only 60 percent of men and 72 percent of women in the 25- to 30-year-old live smoke-free. After all, almost a quarter of the non-smokers have already indulged in the vice. That's how 23 percent described themselves as ex-smokers.
The cessation can work out
According to a recent study, many smokers would like to keep their fingers out of cigarettes, but they are too worried about possible withdrawal symptoms. According to experts, this fear of ceasing is unfounded. If you follow some tips, then smoking ceases to work, according to doctors. Among other things, behavioral therapies and nicotine gums or patches can help. Above all, it is important that you really want it and not have to be persuaded to quit smoking. (Ad)
