Eating habits Men eat much more with women than usual
Do men behave differently when eating when women are present? Apparently, according to a US study. According to this, a female escort at lunch would mean that people eat much more than when another man is sitting at the table. The researchers published their results in the journal "Evolutionary Psychological Science".
Researchers watch more than 100 volunteers over lunch for two weeks
The eating behavior in men is apparently not determined primarily by the appetite, but depends mainly on the accompaniment from. This is the conclusion of a recent study by Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Accordingly, men who ate lunch together with at least one woman were much more likely to eat at the buffet than those who were in male company. Men apparently eat more when women are around. Cornell University's Food & Brand Lab reports that researchers led by study director Kevin Kniffin spent two weeks watching 105 adults visit an Italian "all you can eat" buffet for lunch. They documented how many pieces of pizza and portions of salad were consumed and recorded whether the subjects ate in male or female accompaniment. Before guests left the venue, they were also asked to answer a few questions about their personal level of satiety, as well as the perceived hustle and comfort of eating.
Women often feel rushed when eating with men
It was found that the male subjects ate 93 percent more pizza (1.44 pieces) and 86 percent more salad when at least one woman was sitting at the table, according to the report of the university. The amount that women ate, however, remain the same - regardless of whether they had a male or female accompaniment. Having eaten with men, however, many women said that they had eaten too much and felt rushed during the meal.
"These results suggest that men tend to eat too much to be important. You can also see this tendency in that dining competitions almost always have only male participants, "says Kniffin. In contrast to more traditional laboratory experiments, the field study offered the opportunity to observe the natural dynamics, the researchers write in their paper. "Our findings are relevant to the understanding of overconsumption in men as well as the demarcation of future ones
