Majority of Germans eat together at fixed times of the day

According to a survey of pharmacies Umschau most Germans like to eat at regular same time of day. Keeping the fixed times is according to survey result about 55 per cent a special concern.
The Germans like to eat at fixed times. This was the result of a representative survey by GfK Marktforschung commissioned by the magazine „pharmacy magazine“. About 55 percent of women and men surveyed said they had a fixed time of meal „very important“ is. The survey showed that strong relationships and children in the household have a strong impact on the structural organization of mealtimes. 88 percent of couples and families reported one „special value“ to have dinner together and to have supper together at least in the evening. Around 71 percent of respondents said they had breakfast together in the morning.
Regular daily routine protects against overweight
The trend from irregular food to a structured daily routine seems to become more and more prevalent in families. A 2010 AOK family study showed that shared meals and family rituals protect children from unhealthy obesity. By no means all parents put the valuable advice into action. About 16 percent of all children under the age of 12 are considered overweight in Germany. (Sb)
