01/05/2011

Until yesterday, the 77th Annual Meeting of the German Cardiac Society in Mannheim took place in Mannheim. The physician Rupert Wende presented during an event the results of the new AMI-Elderly study of the Augsburg MONICA-CORA cardiac infarct register. Here was the frequency of use of alternative therapies and their influence on the „compliance“ studied in elderly heart attack patients. It became clear that only a minority of affected patients also resorted to alternative healing methods in natural medicine. „Unlike reports from North America, the use of these cures and supplements does not affect compliance with the use of standard medication.“ explained Wende. The term „compliance“ is used in medicine as a collective term for the adherence of patients. That said, most patients who also resorted to alternative treatments usually did so in addition to conventional therapies.

Better quality of life through additional methods of naturopathy
In patients who additionally rely on traditional alternative methods as well as naturopathy, a study was conducted during the course of the study „tends to improve quality of life“ be detected. „Individual aspects were even significantly better“, so turn of the University Hospital Augsburg. The AMI Elderly study was presented at the annual meeting of the German Cardiac Society - Cardiovascular Research (DGK).

In natural medicine, for example, the following additional therapies are recommended in the case of an existing or already-experienced heart attack: flower essences such as Bach flower therapy, phytotherapy, orthomolecular medicine, diet change and weight reduction in obesity, daily exercise sessions and relaxation techniques for stress reduction such as yoga, tai chi or Chi Gong.
