Dangerous intestinal infection
In Ingolstadt, Bavaria, three cases of the dangerous intestinal infection EHEC have occurred in a kindergarten. According to a news agency dpa, the daycare has been closed since last Friday. Already since that time there was a suspicion, as the city administration confirmed on Monday. The children are in the hospital, according to regional media. All parents of the affected kindergarten were contacted by the Ingolstadt health department. In addition, the city has set up a telephone hotline.

If symptoms occur to the doctor
EHEC pathogens occur in different variants that are not all equally dangerous to the human organism. Some of them merely cause harmless EHEC symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. More dangerous infections can be more serious in patients. These include, for example, a bloody, diarrheal bowel movement or kidney damage associated with kidney pain. Parents whose children have the symptoms of fever and diarrhea, should go with their offspring immediately in medical care, it said. In addition, the city also advised siblings in the affected families as a precaution from attending school. (Ad)
