Hospital germs: callback for peeling mask by dm

The drugstore chain dm has launched a callback for the article "alverde naturschön peeling mask 100 ml". It is not excluded that in the product occasionally the germ Pseudomonas aeruginosa is included. This pathogen is among the twelve most dangerous to human health.

Dangerous germ in peeling mask

The drugstore chain dm recalls the article "alverde naturschön scrub mask 100 ml". According to the company, only goods with the best before dates (MHD) 09/2019 and 10/2019 are affected. The MHD is easily recognizable on the crucible label. "Reason for the warning and the recall: In the products of the mentioned MHDs can not be ruled out that occasionally the germ Pseudomonas aeruginosa is included," it says in a statement.

Infections possible

Customers are urged not to use the affected product and to return it to the dm markets unopened or already opened. The purchase price will be refunded.

As dm writes, "it may, for example, in existing skin injuries in individual cases to an infection with this germ come."

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a so-called hospital germ.

Resistant to antibiotics

The bacterium "is one of the most common causes of nosocomial pneumonia in respiratory, wound and urinary tract infections worldwide; the bacteria can also trigger a bloodstream infection (sepsis), "writes the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

"Most P. aeruginosa strains are inherently resistant to a variety of antibiotics," say the experts.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is also listed in a World Health Organization (WHO) list of the "12 bacterial families that pose the greatest threat to human health.".

Resistances to carbapenems had occurred in these bacteria. These are antibiotics, which are usually only used when other antibiotics do not work. (Ad)
