The "fasting mimicking diet (FMD)" developed by study authors limits fasting to five days a month. The participants do not have to do without food completely during this time. You can eat 1,090 kilocalories on the first day and 725 kilocalories on each of the following four days.

Around one hundred subjects between the ages of 20 and 70 tested the diet for three months each. 71 subjects held out to the end. On average, the subjects lost 2.6 kg. The weight reduction concerned only the fatty tissue. The abdominal circumference decreased by 4.1 cm. The body mass index fell by 2.1 points (from 27.4 to 25.3 kg / m2).

In addition, blood pressure decreased by 4.5 / 3.1 mm Hg. Growth factor IGF 1 decreased by 21.7 to 46.2 ng / ml to levels associated with decreased cancer risk.

Triglycerides, cholesterol and fasting blood glucose also improved, with effects mostly limited to subjects with elevated baseline levels. Click here to get to the abstract of the study. (Pm)
