Grapes without seeds enjoy increased popularity among consumers, but grapes with kernels are more recommendable from a health point of view, according to the message from the Bavarian consumer advice center. In addition, the table grapes with kernels usually taste more aromatic than so-called seedless grapes, the charitable organization continues to report.
The small, seedless and often sugar-sweet grapes are relatively popular with consumers. But „Those who want to do something good for their health should prefer grapes with seeds“, emphasized the nutrition expert of the consumer center Bavaria, Heidrun Schubert. Because in the cores important nutrients and minerals are included. In order to develop their full effect, however, the loud statement of the expert should be taken.
Secondary plant substances in the grape seeds
„The grape seeds have a higher content of phytochemicals compared to the pulp“, reports the consumer center Bavaria in its current press release and adds: „These antioxidant substances have an anti-inflammatory and germicidal effect.“ According to this, "seedless grapes are clearly inferior to ordinary grapes from a health point of view". Furthermore, red grapes offer more of these ingredients than white ones, according to the nutrition expert at the Bavarian Consumer Advice Center.
Crack grape seeds
In order to develop the full effect of the phytochemicals, Heidrun Schubert recommends biting some seeds during grape-eating. This is „Although getting used to, but only then the valuable substances can be absorbed“, reports the nutrition expert. The gastric acid alone does not make it possible to dissolve the shell of the cores, Schubert continues. (Fp)
