German Heart Day: Awareness campaign for the weak heart

Lack of exercise, an unhealthy diet and smoking favor cardiovascular disease. It is estimated that these three factors account for around 80 percent of deaths in industrialized nations. Most people die from a heart attack or stroke, which in turn causes cardiovascular disease early on due to lack of exercise, unhealthy diet and smoking favors.
Estimates suggest that physical inactivity, unhealthy diet and smoking are responsible for around 80% of deaths worldwide in the developed world. Each year, around 370,000 people with cardiac insufficiency are admitted to clinics in Germany, of which more than 48,000 die. In a disease, the performance of the heart is impaired so much that the body can no longer be sufficiently supplied with oxygen. Concerned suffer from shortness of breath, poor performance and fluid retention in the legs.
Prevention should start early
A four-country study showed that the belief that prevention must begin at the age of 30 is widespread. Almost 50 percent of a total of 4,000 respondents in this study responded. For this reason, the German Heart Foundation calls for earlier to take care of their own heart health and that of the children and all family members. Because those who deal with a healthy lifestyle at a young age, reduces the risk of heart disease in old age.
For this reason, specialists in the context of the Herzwochen 2013 will be informing about the awareness campaign from 1 to 30 November “The weak heart“ the German Heart Foundation.
