After the detection of coliform bacteria in drinking water in the greater Erfurt area in Thuringia last week, the quality of drinking water in the supply area of the Kertzsch waterworks in the Zwickau district of Saxony is now impaired. According to the Regional Zweckverband Wasserversorgung Lugau-Glauchau, intestinal germs have reached the drinking water of Meerane, Waldenburg, Oberwiera, Remse and Schönberg.

To prevent health hazards, the affected citizens should, as a precaution, boil the drinking water for five minutes before drinking, using it for food preparation or brushing one's teeth. The Zweckverband informed public social institutions such as day-care centers, schools as well as nursing homes directly. In addition, handbills were distributed.
