Cellulite: Promotes overweight orange peel?

03/18/2015

Especially women know the problem of annoying dents on thighs and buttocks: orange peel is considered a beauty blemish. Is it true that overweight people are more likely to be affected? And what can you do about cellulite?

Weak connective tissue as a cause

Many overweight people who struggle with cellulite wonder if a few extra pounds can really affect the skin tissue. But the cause of the dents is not necessarily the weight, but above all a weak connective tissue (connective tissue weakness), as Maja Hofmann, from the Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Allergology at the Charité Berlin according to a message from the news agency dpa announced. The expert emphasized: „Even thin people have orange peel.“

Sports and special massages can help
Especially women are affected. This has to do with the fact that the female body is adjusted to pregnancies and therefore the tissue is softer and more elastic. Hofman said that although there is no magic bullet against the unloved dents, it could, inter alia, help sports. This is because inflated fat cells are to blame for the orange peel. The less fat, the more toned your body is, the less cellulite you have. Connective tissue massages can also help, as they increase blood circulation. On the other hand, creams for cellulite are not helpful. They do not penetrate deeply enough to have an effect on the dents, as Hofmann explained.

Healthy diet for cellulite
According to other experts, cigarettes, alcohol and sugar can also promote the formation of orange peel. In alternative medicine, it is believed that acidity of the body, which is caused by unhealthy diet and stress, can lead to cellulite. With a balanced diet, you can also counteract the annoying dents. According to experts, calcium-rich foods such as cheese and curd cheese are particularly suitable since calcium is significantly responsible for the stability of the connective tissue. In addition, minerals from fruits and vegetables are important. (Ad)
