Action to legalize cannabis
At the beginning of the Oktoberfest, the local Munich branch of the German Hemp Association (DHV) distributed free hop umbels in small transparent bags. Like the cannabis plant, this "real hops" comes from the cannabaceae family, the hemp family. The hop-hungry visitors of the Oktoberfest should be explained this kinship in order to reduce the fears of hemp plants in general.

The hop flowers can be used as a legal drug to make a calming tea or to brew beer. Unlike cannabis flowers, no one has any reason to fear being criminalized.

The group of volunteer activists, which was founded in spring 2015, wants to point out with the action how differently these related plants are legally handled. For example, while a filled beer cellar is basically impunity, the possession of a small joint or a single hemp plant in Bavaria can lead to a house search. The mostly four-digit cost of these persecution measures is borne by the taxpayer. However, it does not consume less.

Micha Greif, spokesman for the local Munich branch of the German Hemp Association, therefore makes it clear: "The cannabis ban is useless, expensive and failed. A controlled sale, on the other hand, enables youth and consumer protection, creates jobs and would easily bring in additional 2 billion euros in additional tax revenue in Germany. "

Georg Wurth, Managing Director of the German Hemp Association welcomes the action: "We wish the visitors of the Oktoberfest a lot of fun and a relaxed time. However, the same freedom that they enjoy should also apply to cannabis users in Germany. Penalties and criminalization only hurt! "

Another information booth is scheduled for Saturday, 24.09.2016 from 14:00 to 19:00. The location is in front of the former furniture XXL Lutz (Theresienhöhe 5, 80339 Munich). There is also information on cannabis as medicine, regenerative material and as food and beverage. On the occasion of the Oktoberfest, the information stands under the motto: "Hops and hemp are related - the German Hanfverband wishes you lots of fun!".
