Almost every adult can donate blood
The need for hospitals to store blood is large. Therefore, the blood transfusion service West from the German Red Cross (DRC) regularly calls for blood donation. In Heiligenhaus, the next appointment will take place on Wednesday, July 29, from 3 to 7.30 pm in the auditorium of the Kant-Gymnasium.

Blood donation saves lives
Patients lose a lot of blood due to serious injuries during accidents, operations or births. In such situations, storing blood can be vital to the sufferer. Nevertheless, blood donations in this country are far from commonplace for everyone. In view of the great need for blood supplies, the German Red Cross Blood Donor Service West is urgently calling for blood donation.

Almost anyone can be a blood donor if he is healthy and at least 18 years old and weighs no less than 50 kilograms. For new senders, the maximum age is 69 years. According to the Hemotherapy Directive, there should be at least eight weeks between two whole blood donations. In Germany, women are allowed to donate blood four times a year and men six times. Every donor should eat and drink enough before getting blood.

Further information can be found on the Internet at www.blutspendedienst-west.de. In addition, the DRK Blood Transfusion Service West has set up a free hotline (0800 -11 949 11) at the Spender Service Center, where questions are answered Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm. (Ag)
