Consumption is strongly discouraged

Reason for recall: "Verotoxin-producing E. coli (VTEC), which pose a health risk, were identified during an investigation."

All verotoxin-producing Escherichia coli (VTEC) are to be regarded as potential enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC).

"It is absolutely not recommended to consume the product concerned," the statement says.

According to the information, the product was distributed from 19.09.2018 in several states.

Consumers who have purchased this cheese are advised not to consume it and to dispose of the food or to contact the point of sale where they purchased the product.

Germs can be extremely dangerous

EHEC germs are usually absorbed through contaminated food. Transmission from person to person is possible via a smear infection, ie from hand to hand.

A major symptom of EHEC infection is watery diarrhea (often bloody diarrhea), usually accompanied by severe spasmodic abdominal pain, fever, nausea and vomiting.

The various sequelae can be associated with a variety of other symptoms.

In particularly severe cases, the development of a so-called hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS), including kidney damage, which can even lead to kidney failure, is threatened.

In the end, at worst, a fatal multi-organ failure ensues.

"People who have eaten the food and develop severe or persistent symptoms should seek medical attention and alert them to possible EHEC infection," the company writes.

However, it does not make sense to go for preventive treatment without symptoms. (Ad)
