Bisphenol-A causes infertility in women
Bisphenol A can cause infertility in women.
(16/07/2010) The bulk chemical bisphenol-A (BPA) may cause infertility in women, a recent study has found. In this context, the environmental organization "Global 2000" again warns against the use of the BPA chemical.
The chemical bisphenol A is found in many everyday objects. So the chemical substance is mainly used for the production of baby bottles, pacifiers, food packaging, thermal paper, plastic bottles and many other other commodities. Again and again scientists and environmental organizations warn against the use of the harmful chemical. So far only with moderate success.
Now, a recent study has revealed another bisphenol-A scandal. Thus, the chemical can disrupt the hormone balance of women and lead to diseases of the ovaries. "A new study suggests the connection between BPA and infertility in women, the plastic chemical can severely disrupt the hormone balance and lead to diseases of the ovaries," explains Daniela Hoffmann of "Global 2000". Because at a congress of the "Endocrine Society" a new study was published, which establishes this connection. About five to ten percent of women with polycystic ovarian syndrome. The disease is caused by a disruption of the hormone balance and leads to infertility. Cause could be according to study the use of bisphenol-A. Women who suffer from this disease have higher levels of bisphenol-A in their blood than others.
Already at the beginning of the year, there was a similar study by Harvard University which has come to a similar conclusion. Bisphenol-A not only affects the maturation of oocytes, but also the course of pregnancy. In addition, Japanese researchers made similar observations in 2005, with unusually high BPA levels in women who suffered repeated miscarriages.
Global 2000 therefore calls on the responsible politicians an action plan for the reduction of the bulk used chemical bisphenol-A. "Starting with products for infants who are particularly sensitive to BPA, BPA must disappear from all food packaging," according to environmentalists.
Bisphenol A acts in the human organism similar to the female hormone estrogen. Researchers and environmentalists have long suspected far-reaching consequences in the reproduction of humans. Among other things, it is assumed that girls become sexually mature due to BPA. In addition, male sperm quality has declined rapidly over the past 50 years. The Federal Environment Agency has also recently warned against the use of Bisphenol A. Nothing has happened yet, although numerous studies have proven the danger to human health. (Sb)
