Fruit can now be bought year-round regardless of the harvest season. So that the freshness is not lost and the enjoyment is guaranteed, one should pay attention to a lot during storage. There are special tips for storing pears here.
The Rhenish Provincial Association of Fruit and Vegetable Farmers in Bonn recommends keeping pears best in dark and cool places, as the fruits ripen quickly. The optimum storage temperature is zero to one degree. Pears can usually be stored in the fridge, packed in a perforated bag in the existing drawers. Of course, it is best to consume or process the goods quickly after purchase.
The harvest stops the build-up and converts the contents like sugar, starch and fruit acid into carbon dioxide and water. The enzymes contained in the pear additionally break down the vitamins and flavorings contained. Pears are very sensitive to pressure and should not be crushed during transport. Due to the lower acid content, pears are more digestible than apples. Most minerals and vitamins are in the shell and should always be eaten. The many fibers have a digestive effect and the potassium contained has a draining property. (Fr)
