Organic or better conventional? What makes the difference with honey
In the hot milk, the tea or to refine desserts: honey is popular. Many consumers in Germany like to use organic produce here. But what should one imagine under organic honey? Where is the difference to conventionally manufactured goods?
Honey as a tried-and-tested home remedy
Honey is not only popular for sweetening teas or various delicious dishes, but has also been used as a home remedy for physical ailments since time immemorial. Among other things, it relieves the cough in children during the night and is used by some people because of its antibacterial effect for the treatment of small wounds. When curing honey with the home remedy, experts generally recommend using natural, ecologically produced products. But what really makes the difference between organic and conventional goods?
How Honey Becomes Organic Honey
The consumer center Saxony explained in a message that it is of course hard to control on which flower the bee ultimately flies. However, there are some requirements for turning a honey into an organic honey. For example, the radius around the beehives is crucial. These must be set up in such a way that, within a radius of three kilometers, there are essentially organically grown plants, wild plants or crops that have been treated with low environmental impact methods. In addition, a sufficient distance to heavily polluted places such as landfills must be respected.
Beehives made of natural materials
Furthermore, the beehives and baskets must be made of natural materials that do not pollute the environment and the beech wax partitions must be organic. If the hibernation requires supplementation, use honey or honey or sugar syrup from organic beekeeping. "The legal regulations regulate the measures for the extraction, treatment and processing of the honey in the organic beekeeping", explained. Birgit Brendel from the consumer center Saxony. (Ad)
