Occupations with a very high sickness absence
TK health report shows sick leave in the different occupational groups
04/22/2014
According to the current health report of the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK), employees in individual occupational groups are significantly more likely to get sick. So be for example „Metaller nearly two and a half times as ill as administrative employees“, reports the TC. Overall, the Health Report 2014 shows a slight increase in sick leave compared with the previous year.
According to the health insurance company, the employees and the ALG-I recipients were in 2013 „on average 14.7 days sick leave - half a day more than the year before.“ Both in terms of age and gender, as well as in relation to the respective occupations, there were clear differences. Some occupations seem to literally make employees sick.
Metal occupations with the highest sick leave
The highest sickness rate recorded the TK with an average of 23.1 days in the field of metalworking, but also in the construction industry (21.4 days) and in the transport and storage occupations (22.3 days) were clearly above average sick leave. The technical occupations showed the lowest sick leave with 10.8 days of sick leave, followed by administrative workers with 11.3 days absence, according to TK. Here, the assumption of a connection between the physical stress in the occupations and the individual health is obvious.
Women sick more frequently
The Health Report also finds that women are on average 15 days sick leave, 15.9 days more than men (12.9). In addition, young workers under the age of 25 showed fewer days off (11 days) than those in the 55-59 age group Years (22.8 days). However, 15 to 24-year-olds were about twice as likely to sign a sick leave, but the number of sick leave days was on average more than four times higher among older people.
According to the TK, the sick leave was significantly influenced by „mental disorders, respiratory diseases, musculoskeletal disorders and injuries.“ The basis of the current evaluations are the routinely recorded and anonymized data from currently 4.1 million people insured with the TK, according to the health insurance company in the press release on the current health report.
