Experts do not recommend hot meals until high in the summer

According to nutrition experts, it is not crucial if, but when a hot meal is eaten during the day. In summer, however, fresh fruit and salad is better tolerated during the day due to the heat. When temperatures drop in the evening, it's time for hot food.

Isabelle Keller of the German Nutrition Society in Bonn advises in the summer to light meals during the day and only in the evening to a warm meal. Then it gets cooler and the body sweats less. For lunchtime salad or cottage cheese with fruit is the right choice. That could be synonymous with any diet plan. „The body does not distinguish whether I take a calorie in the morning or in the evening.“ At the end of the day count the total number of calories.

According to Keller especially summer fruit is recommended due to the abundant selection. „Cherries, melons, pineapple, I can prepare that in the morning for the office.“ With radishes, cucumbers, celery, peppers and tomatoes, the diet can be supplemented. The vegetables are easily digestible and contain not only water but also minerals.

In summery temperatures, drinking is the most important thing. At least 1.5 liters of water should be consumed by adults at least daily. If the quantity falls below, it can lead to difficulty concentrating and tiredness. „Water is the best thirst quencher“, explains Keller, as it contains neither calories nor caffeine. „If this is too boring for me, I can switch to low-calorie drinks.“ For example, fruit tea can be mixed with a bit of fruit juice.

It has been known for some time that Southern Europeans have a lower risk of heart attack. According to the German Heart Foundation, this is mainly due to the healthier eating habits. In the Mediterranean region, foods such as fish, olive oil and vegetables are regularly removed from the diet. These contain a lot of fiber and vitamins and are healthier for the heart than meat, animal fats and egg whites. (Ag)
