Treatment options diabetic neuropathy
Alternative treatment options for diabetic neuropathy.
About one in three diabetics develops diabetic neuropathy as the disease progresses. It destroys peripheral nerves, which manifests itself in sensory disturbances and pain, especially on the hands and feet. In the worst case, the nerve disease leads to the amputation of the damaged body parts. More and more often sufferers use natural healing techniques to counteract the course of the disease and alleviate the symptoms.
The most important component is the therapy of the underlying disease.
In the foreground of the therapy of diabetic neuropathy is the treatment of the underlying disease, namely diabetes mellitus. One of the most important measures for the prevention and avoidance of the spread of the disorder is an optimal drug adjustment of the blood sugar level, which has to be regularly checked by both the doctor and the person concerned. The aim is to achieve continuous values, in particular heavy fluctuations up and down should be avoided. At least as important are the therapeutic recommendations for a whole-nutrition and regular body movement, which must be adhered to.
Methods from Naturopathy - an overview.
In addition to the aforementioned changes in diet and lifestyle, which are the indispensable pillars of any naturopathic treatment, there are a variety of therapeutic measures that promise success, especially at the onset of symptoms.
If non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), low-dose opiates and antidepressants as well as antiepileptic drugs are used conventionally, the most well-known alternative is alpha-lipoic acid. This physiological active ingredient protects with its antioxidant properties, the nerve fibers from further damage and is initially administered as an infusion, with a noticeable decrease in symptoms also orally. Also suitable are evening primrose oil, hemp oil and pomegranate seed oil, which can improve the nerve function through the contained gamma-linolenic acid.
Unfortunately, all of these drugs can lead to unpleasant side effects, especially in the digestive system.
To relieve the pain, a preparation of cayenne pepper (capsaicin ointment) can be used externally (also as a self-treatment) for intact skin. In natural healing practice, body acupuncture and neural therapy are used to reduce pain. Other measures from the natural healing, which can be helpful according to experience, especially with onset of symptoms, are dark field microscopy and environmental therapy but also the (classical) homeopathy, where in addition to the physical symptoms and mental symptoms are taken into account. An oxygen therapy improves the blood circulation of the tissue as a whole and can minimize or improve consequential damage.
To prevent the onset of the diabetic foot, feet should be extensively examined daily for bathing, bathing and creaming. Especially when cutting the nails are cuts in the skin and „sharp edges“ to avoid. Regular visits to a specialized foot care practice and appropriate footwear complete the preventive measures.
