Therapy and treatment options in Parkinson's disease.

The drug therapy for Parkinson's disease is usually the administration of L-Dopa, as dopamine replacement. L-Dopa is known to many people from the movie "Time of Awakening" (Original: "Awakening") with Robert de Niro. Here was the British neurologist and author of popular science books. Oliver Sacks, described the course of the first experiments with L-Dopa.

The dose of L-dopa must always be adjusted during the course of the disease. There are now also operative methods of deep brain stasis with inserted electrodes. Medicinal naturopathic therapies can be exclusively concomitant and symptom-relieving. It should be noted that in patients with L-dopa intake should be treated only in consultation with the treating physicians. There are also L-Dopa-rich plants in natural medicine, such as the so-called Juckbohne (Mucuna pruriens), which is at home in tropical regions. L-Dopa also occurs in the substance with which mussels stick to their environment.

In order to maintain the mobility of those affected and to optimize them appropriately and to work against tension, methods such as rolfing, osteopathy or manual therapy are indicated in natural medicine. Otherwise, physiotherapeutic and ergotherapeutic measures are often used.

The historical background of Parkinson's.
Every year on the 11th of April is World Parkinson's Day. This is the birthday of the discoverer of the disease by the English physician, pharmacist and paleontologist James Parkinson (1755-1824). Parkinson had described the symptoms in 1817 in his essay "An Essay on the Shaking Palsy" ("An Essay on Shaking Palsy"). By the muscle tremor of the Parkinson's sufferers, he first called it "shaking palsy" (trade name: "Paralysis agitans"). It was not until about 1884 that the disease was named after Parkinson's disease by the French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot (1825 - 1893). (Thorsten Fischer, Naturopath Osteopathy, 10.04.2010)
