In recent years, the number of inpatient treatments for eating disorders in Germany has increased dramatically. From the new school year, the BKK in Baden-Württemberg wants to take care of the prevention and treatment of eating disorders, especially for vocational students.

program „gut feeling“
The number of inpatient treatments for eating disorders has increased dramatically in recent years. In Baden-Wuerttemberg, the BKK-Landesverband Süd will focus on the prevention and treatment of eating disorders from the new school year, especially for vocational students. The boss of the national association of the company health insurance funds, Jacqueline Kühne, told the news agency dpa in Stuttgart: „With the program „gut feeling“ We want to make the young people aware of eating disorders.“

Anorexia leads to death in ten percent of the cases
For example, vocational school teachers are to receive material on topics such as obesity, anorexia, bulimia (eating and refractive addiction) and binge eating (binge eating) in the nationwide unique program. According to BKK data, anorexia leads to death in about ten percent of cases. Most of the consequences of improper diet, however, are less drastic, but by no means harmless. Thus, depending on the eating disorder, health problems, such as underweight, low blood pressure, slow heart rate, loss of appetite, diarrhea or nausea may occur. In addition, the effects of malnutrition are generally recognizable by physical weakness, listlessness and tiredness. If symptoms occur, consult a doctor.

Also companies would have to be involved
„Our goal is a good gut feeling for the teenagers“, said Kühne. In the past few years, the company health insurance funds had equipped around 1,000 general education schools in the state with educational folders. In vocational schools, however, the approach is a different one, since the young people start a new phase of life by switching to training. As the head of the regional association announced, the companies would also have to be included. (Ad)
